Spring and Summer Festivals
2024-25 Cricket Express CJCA Girls Spring and Summer Festivals
CJCA Girls Festivals
The CJCA runs a Spring Festival in November/December, The CJCA Invitational in January and a Summer Festival in February/March each season. Nominations will open and be advertised in September.
We strongly encourage all girls to play in this tournament even if this is your first year of cricket. It is great fun; the girls get to meet and play with other girls from different teams and the games are generally very close because we select even teams. The Spring and Summer are played over two consecutive Sundays.
If you have friends that play another sport on a Saturday and would like to play in the tournament then encourage them to nominate themselves, it is also a great opportunity for girls that play in our school competitions or other cricketing formats to play extra cricket.
The main emphasis is on raising the level of cricket and additional playing opportunities, further inter-districts playing opportunities are also organised from this tournament.
Further playing opportunities
We strongly suggest that you play in these festivals in order to prepare to play in additional Festivals, such as CJCA Girls Invitational Festival played in January each year.

Girls Festivals
For the last few seasons CJCA trialed a new approach to attract as many girls as possible from a wide of range current playing abilities to get together in a girls-only environment. This has been successful, and we will use this format in future festivals to allow the flexibility required to accommodate girls of any age or ability. This has also linked to the new Pathway with Divisions 3-5 being used as the formats for our festivals.
It is hoped that skills developed at these festivals will provide players with added confidence to regularly compete at a high standard in their respective age groups and so increase their levels of enjoyment and commitment.
CJCA’s primary objective for these festivals is to provide all players with opportunities to further develop their skills further and enjoy playing with and against their normal teammates.
We will have four levels of competition in these festivals, The formats and rules run alongside our normal grade rules here Girls Grade formats.
- Division 5 “Mini Mags”
- Division 4 Incrediball
- Division 4 Novice Hardball. Division 4 rules with a 142g Hardball and full protective equipment.
- Division 3 Competitive Hardball
The CJCA Executive is extremely grateful for all the hard work put in by the many volunteers who help make these tournaments take place. These include team managers, selectors, CJCA Executive members and umpires. Please remember that, as is the case in all sports, the Umpires decision is final and must not be debated or challenged.
Enjoy the festivals!
Team arrangements
All girls that self-nominate will be placed in evenly balanced teams in regard to spin, medium and pace bowlers, batters, and wicketkeepers. As there are no assessments for the Girls festivals, we rely on prior knowledge and parental input to balance these teams.
The managers pay no heed to which clubs or schools the players come from, and there is no obligation to spread team selections around to ensure someone from each club or school is represented.
Festival Conditions
The Cricket Express Festivals provide all players with opportunities to further develop their skills. It is important that all players will have equal opportunity to develop. It is acknowledged that in year 7 and especially year 8, that players are beginning to specialise. Team bowling and batting orders may take player specialisation into account, but it is imperative that all players receive equal opportunity to participate. Player rotation is a crucial part of all players having equal opportunity.
