Canterbury Country proved too strong for the opposition after claiming a first day outright win and remaining unbeaten to hold off the challenge of the also unbeaten CJCA Black team (below at the opening ceremony with Black Caps Ross Taylor & Colin Munro) at the recently completed 55th South Island Primary Schools Tournament in Nelson.
The event which was already shortened by 1 day due to the Black Caps playing Pakistan in an ODI on the previously scheduled Day 2 lost an entire day on the Thursday and impacted on the last day of the event as CJCA Black attempted to force an outright against North Otago on the last day to attempt to draw closer to the Country.
CJCA Red (above) suffered an unexpected loss on Day 1 to Otago Country and couldn’t make up the lost ground in the 2 remaining playing days. Host Nelson and South Canterbury tied for 3rd.
The 2019 event will take place in North Otago in January next year.
