Russley find St Albans too strong

Wednesday, 19 April 2017

St Albans School are the Girls Superstar Year 5 & 6 competition winners for the 2016/17 season after a strong win over Russley School (pictured below) in the final recently.  Russley made the final after a tense semi-final win over St Albans' 2nd team with the match being a tie and the winner being decided by who gained the most wickets - Russley had their nose in front on this score.

The final was held at St Albans School and after a week of solid rain the ground came up in good shape to allow the match to be played.  Russley School won the toss and batted and started well but the well drilled St Albans team began to squeeze the Russley batters into errors and in the end Russley managed 38 runs in 12 overs but 7 "wickets" had been taken by St Albans.

With the opening partnership putting on 30 without losing a wicket St Albans were ahead of the chase very early and kept up solid partnerships losing just 1 wicket in their 12 overs.  The final pair underlined St Albans strength adding 33 to bring their score to 97 batting runs which was added to by 21 bowling bonus runs meant the finals score was St Albans School 118 Russley School 41.
