Medbury Boys win CJCA Schools Final

Hillview fall short in chase

Thursday, 6 April 2017

Medbury School are the direct qualifiers through to the Canterbury finals of the New Zealand Cricket National Cup competition after a tense win over Hillview Christian School recently.

Playing on grass at the new Nursery ground beside Hagley Oval,  Heaton batted first and keep up a solid run rate throughout their 20 overs.  Sam MacDonald and Nick Gibb got the team off to a solid start but both were out when the score reached 45.  Harry Sharr scored at better than a run a ball until he was out with the score at 81 when 3 wickets fell.  Alex Brown played a vital role for his side scoring 23 of 14 to bring Medburys total to 121.  Best of the Hillview bowlers was Mario Raxworthy with 2 for 17 of 4.

Jamie Ehau and Sam Mason put on 57 after losing an early wicket but they dropped behind the asking rate due to some tight fielding and accurate bowling through the middle.  Spinners Hamish Falls-Anderson and Nick Gibb claimed 4-42 in their combined 8 overs and left Hillview needing a big surge to get close.  Rory Skinner tried his best with 29 off 22 but his side fell short finishing with 111 with 5 wickets still in hand.

Many thanks to Rupert Bool and his staff for allowing the boys to play on what will become yet another excellent venue hopefully to be used more for CJCA high profile matches in the future.
