Emerging Summaries from the 19th of March

McMillan Emerging v Astle Emerging

McMillan Emerging 210/9

Tom Butterfield         43

Harry Eastwick         61

Louis Hamilton      2 for 31 off 6 overs

Thomas Johnson  3 for 22 off 4 overs

Toby van Olsen     3 for 15 off 3 overs

Astle Emerging 180/7

Bruno Davies          50 - not out

Thomas Johnson    38

Blake Townsend     35 - not out

Ben Evans          2 for 13 off 4 overs

Harry Eastwick    2 for 12 off 4 overs

Seth Allen           1 for 15 off 3 overs

Connor Arnold    1 for 18 off 3 overs

McMillan Emerging won the toss decided to bat. McMillan didn't get off to a great start, loosing a few wickets quickly for little runs. After 3 overs the team had a grand total of 10 and 3 down. Louie, Ben and George then tried to get a partnership going putting on 37 runs. Louie Hamilton and Thomas Johnson succeeded in restricting the batters in their quest. It wasn't until Harry Eastwick and Tom Butterfield arrived at the crease that a long standing partnership endured. The pair put on 119 together cementing the team into a strong position (Harry E - 61, Tom B 43). Once Tom and then Harry E both went through the bowling of Toby van Olsen the run rate slowed for McMillan.

The team was down 9 for 177 with only 28 overs gone. The batters took a different tack to maintain their wickets and pickup singles where they could. This proved difficult as Astle put their two opening bowlers back on successfully restricting the round rate down. Once the batters survived this, they started picking up a run or two but the tally mostly came from wides. A late flourish at the end of the innings from Alex Rippon propelled McMillan over 200 ending on 210.

Astle Emerging lost their first wicket early in the first over with Harry Hatton bowled by Connor Arnold caught by Seth Allen. Jackson Bunting and Louis Hamilton tried to establish a partnership with this stopping at the 8 over with Jackson being caught by Harry T off Seth, the team score was 33/2. The next two partnerships through Louie and Blake, Blake and Sean took the score to 68 till Sean was caught behind by Ollie off Ben Evans, 18 overs had gone. Astle was slowing digging themselves a deficit to chase with the run rate slowing down. It was 70/4 at the 20th over, 110 behind. Thomas J came to the crease and added 38 off 51 balls pushing the score along. He was helped by Bruno Davies who knocked out a 50 from 47 balls, but it was too late. The run rate required was too high and combined with two late wickets in the game, one coming at Thomas's expense, bowled by Ben Evans the other of Tom Geesink run out by Harry Eastwick the game had already slipped away from Astle.

It was a nice sunny day and both teams enjoyed themselves today, demonstrating good skills and attitude towards the fellow team mates and opposition.

Hadlee Emerging vs Fleming Emerging 19/3/2017

Hadlee won the toss and chose to bowl. Nicholas Brown and Hunter Stewart negotiated the first couple of overs well, each hitting a boundary but then George Male got them both in one great over.  Oliver Collins and Monty Bowman came in and started a good partnership that went for several overs before Oliver was bowled by Stefan Marasinghe in a very good spell.  Fraser Hendry then joined Jonty and they took the score through to 41 when Josh Finlayson bowled Fraser with his second ball. Xavier joined Jonty who was doing a good job of the anchor role and they took the score through to 56 when Josh struck again, getting Xavier caught off a fine edge.

Max Edwards was unlucky to be caught first ball by Harry off Alex Boot. Noah Harmer then came in soon after but Harjot took the wickets of Jonty and Dominic Hasselby in two overs and Fleming were teetering at 76 for 8.  Noah was joined by Ben Wright and they turned the innings around. Noah piled on the runs, hitting four successive boundaries at one stage. Noah was eventually run out by Stefan for 40 in a very close decision and Ben took on the role of aggressor which he did superbly to finish on 56 not out, 16 runs coming off his last 7 balls. Finn Arnold played a good cameo at the end hitting 8 not out off 9 balls.

Fleming finished on 192 and Hadlee would have felt it could have been less if a few more catching opportunities had been taken.

Hadlee’s chase started off well with Angus Wilson scoring regularly and Harjot Gill solid at the other end. Noah then got Harjot and Alex Boot joined Angus.  The score raced along, Alex striking 4 boundaries in his first 7 balls before he drove one to short cover and was caught low down by Hunter off the bowling of Max. Hadlee were 67 for 2 off 10 overs.  Josh Finlayson joined Angus and they batted for a long period, Angus scoring steadily, before Josh was caught by the keeper Finn Arnold off the bowling of Ben.  Finn Hanrahan joined Angus but was soon after stumped by an excellent piece of keeping from Finn Arnold off the bowling of Dominic.

Edwin Newcombe-Rogers came in and with Angus they took the score into the 130’s when Angus had to retire having scored 64. It was a superb knock with very few chances and set up the innings for Hadlee.  Stefan replaced Angus and kept up the run rate but was caught by Finn off the bowling of Max for 8.  Hadlee still had wickets in hand but when Matthew Munro was caught by Noah off the bowling of Fraser and the required run rate started creeping up there were a few nerves in the Hadlee camp.

Logan Yates then joined Edwin and together they ran well, hit the loose balls, and were impressive in closing the game out in the 39th over, Edwin finishing on 40 and Logan on 17.  Fleming had fielded well but will be ruing their high extras count of 40 runs compared to Hadlee's 21.

A quality game of cricket between two well matched sides. Well done boys.

All players at the Summer tournament will be invited to take part in the CJCA winter training programme, details of which are currently being agreed. Further information will be sent by email.
