All the essential information can be found on this page for the 50th Tournament at Christchurch - 7th to 11th January 2013
Christchurch Red, coached by Blair Hartland and managed by Mike Parker, proved that they were worthy winners of the 50th South Island Tournament with a 100% winning record for the week. On the last day they played Nelson knowing that a win was needed to secure the title. They batted first and had a nervous start loosing their first four wickets for 44. That brought Isaac Anderson (115no) and Simon Yorston (100no) together and they would remain unbeaten amassing a further 219 to enable a declaration at 263-4.
That proved enough with Campbell Reid taking 4-21 and Nelson being bowled out for 155. However Red performed brilliantly as a team throughout the week and 4 other bowlers took wickets against Nelson and nine dismissals were catches. MATCH REPORT
Jack Pryde also scored an unbeaten century (102) for Dunedin in their win against Otago Country to add to a hat-trick taken on Tuesday against South Canterbury. This is only the fourth time a player has achieved this feat at the same tournament.
Another highlight of the week was a new individual score record of 159 by Llewy Johnson for North Otago against Marlborough on Thursday, He replaces Craig MacMillan in the record books and we will be interested to see if he goes onto play for New Zealand also.
The grounds were excellent (thanks to City Care for the extra outfield cuts at Elmwood and Hospital Corner), Christ's facilities immaculate, the Christchurch weather stunning and the players, management and spectators a credit to the truly wonderful game of cricket. Hopefully all the players feel that they have developed over the week as this is certainly the primary objective of this wonderful tournament.
