CJCA Metro Red vs Mid Canterbury
This was the first opportunity for CJCA Red to play together in a representative match. The match was played according to the South Island Tournament Rules and gave the players their first opportunity to experience these particular playing conditions. Mid Canterbury won the toss and sent CJCA Red into bat. CJCA Red batted responsibly on a difficult pitch to declare on 207 for the loss of 3 wickets in 58 overs (Ryan Pithey 50*, Zach May 39*, Sam Kreft 32).

Mid Canterbury were bowled out for 57 in their first innings in 26.1 overs (Nick Cooke 4/20, Zach May 2/14). CJCA Red enforced the follow on but were unable to bowl out Mid Canterbury a second time. At stumps Mid Canterbury were 24 for 3 in 26 overs. (Ollie O’Loughlin 2/4)

Result: CJCA Red won by 150 runs on the first innings

Yr 7

CJCA Gold beat Mid 199/8 to 136 all out
Gold - J Lee 43, J Hooper 33 retired, R Brown 32, J Lee 2/10, W Patchett 2/12, T Smith 2/12

Gold won the toss and elected to bat. The opening pair of Jaeden Hooper and captain Harry Bisphan set a great platform with 50 runs (Bisphan 20) for the first wicket. Hugh Quirk and Quinn Smith kept the run rate up with Quirk getting 18. The middle order got bogged down when Mid tightened up the bowling but batting down the order, Jonathan Lee and Roan Brown took our total to a formidable 199.

Tom Smith and Will Patchett opened the bowling with Smith at one stage having figures of 2wickets for 0 off 3 overs in a fine spell of in-swing bowling. However Mid battled on and still had 2 wickets in hand going into the final 2 overs, when Quirk caught a dramatic over the shoulder diving catch at point. This bought the retired half century maker, Sam Cuttle, back to the wicket.

The last ball saw Cuttle drive deep to mid-on where Bisphan fielded and threw in one motion for a direct hit. Cuttle run out for 53 and Mid all out on the last ball.
